AutumnJones Wants You To MEET: Simp

Hello and how are you feeling today?
I'm GREAT. Everyday puts me closer to where I want to be.
Explain to people who may not know who Simp, Who You are?
SIMP is your brother, your father, your cousin and any other male influence you may have. SIMP is the the black male that is unrepresented or misrepresented in the media. He is the reality that the Hip Hop world is missing and in need of.
How long have you been rapping and How did you come up with the name Simp?
I have been rapping since 6th grade, so I believe that's about 12 years. Naturally it took me a long time to settle on a name; I was Big D, Don Chamillion, D-Butta (LMAO), but SIMP is the one that stuck. Now that I think about it those names were hilarious!!! Well it originally came from the word simple, because that’s what everybody said about me growing up, they said I was just “so simple.” But, then I learned that it was slang for the opposite of a Pimp or playa. So, when I thought about it I wanted to change it at first…Lol, but then I started to think why society has glorified being a pimp and a playa so much. I started to look at the male figures in my life and to me the pimp and playa role had never been a standard. I was raised to honor and respect women, so I thought it was kind of funny that if you weren’t a Pimp you were looked at like a sissy or a sucka. Instead of running from the term and trying to combat it I decided to embrace it. Society has a funny way of discrediting the “stand-up” individual as soft or weak, so I hope to take that negative connotation and make it positive. That is what a lot of my music is about.
Your originally from Maryland area, you just recently signed to an Atlanta record label. So are you in Atlanta now?
Or are you still In D.C./Maryland area? I am in "ATL." I moved here after graduating college and getting a job here. It was just by hapenstance that I met the owner of my label, BJ Alden, through work. We got togethor on this mixtape project he was doing with a local DJ, DJ Dainja, and everything else has been history. Now, not only am I signed to the label, but I'm part owner and it's a remarkabke feeling to be around people who have that much faith in your ability.
What inspires you musically?
LIFE is my biggest inspiration! The emotions and feelings that we have on a daily basis make the best music. Reality is what makes music so influential and important. On every project I try to make songs that will be a part of the soundtrack to my, and hopefully your, LIFE.
As an up and coming artist, how do you look at the music industry right now seeing and hearing a lot of things that's taking place?
Well like I said earlier, music is about life, but today's music is missing that aspect. For example, in the song "Live your life," by T.I. he says "Stop lokin at what you ain't got and start being thankful for what you do..." To me this is an accurate description of the music industry. It's all about the things that we don't have (i.e.Million dollar homes, bentleys, jewels etc.). Instead of selling truth and honesty they are selling a fantasy. It's like the music industry has turned itself into a strip club! It's not just the music industry though; it's the entertainment world as a whole. This is why we have been seeing this huge push for "Reality TV," people are craving reality and music is not supplying it anymore.
Are you working on an album and if so when will the album be released?
I released my 1st album in September 08' and I'm still pushing that one. But, I am always working on the next album. I just gotta make sure the timing is right and that people are ready for it.
What drives you?
Your music is very motivating, how do you sustain in the midst of all this commotion? Ironically you kind of answered it in your question...lol! Music motivates me. It's how I keep myself going. Music is the main ingredient, but there are other elements as well. Like...peoples gratitude and appreciation for my work and... faith. I have a strong faith in what I am doing and the impact it's going to make on the world. A lot of people don't see it now, but they will.
Every time i turn around your posting something on YouTube? Are you learning to embrace this generation? Because people are making things happen on YouTube.
I'm def learning! I've always believed that change is the only thing that is consistent in life and you can't run from change. So, I'm trying my best to keep up with the times. It makes me feel old as HELL sometimew though and I'm not even 25...lol! But, you look at dudes like "Soulja Boy," whose 1st Hip Hop influence was 50 Cent and it's like damn. I mean dude got so big so fast just off of the internet and his biggest influence is a album that dropped when I graduated High School!!! It's CRAZY!!! Things change though and I refuse to be one of those Old dudes talking about how things use to be...you feel me?
What can fans old and new expect to see from Simp in this coming year?
A change! My music only gets better as time goes on. So, the only thing they can expect is that the next album won't sound like the last, there may be similarities, but my music is constantly evolving.
What is something that you want people to know about you that they may not know? Nothing...If I wanted you to know i would tell you...lol j/k. I would say that I am the Next Big Sound. Not to be arrogant, cocky or conceited, but its just the Truth. "it's That SIMPle!"
Do you have any up coming show, where people can check you out at?
Well on April 18th I am scheduled to perform on a local cable show in ATL called Hood Hard TV. So, deffinetley look for me there and SIMPtv is always broadcasting the latest event that I'll be at so stay tuned.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
I want people to start supporting the type of music that they want to hear. If you are tired of the way music sounds support the artist whose sound you like and don't shut out the musical movement as a whole. Search for good music cause it is out here! That's it.

Madonna Will Not BE Allow TO Adopt!

According to Reuters:

The ruling will please campaigners who say authorities have given the singer special treatment. Malawi’s government, which came under fire after Madonna adopted a 13-month-old Malawian boy, had said on Thursday it would support a second adoption.

Court registrar Ken Manda told reporters Madonna’s bid to adopt Mercy had been rejected because the star was not a resident of Malawi. An AIDS epidemic in the impoverished southern African country has orphaned more than one million children. In her ruling, Judge Esimie Chombo warned against celebrity adoptions, saying they could lead to child trafficking.
Anyone could come to Malawi and quickly arrange for an adoption that might have grave consequences on the very children that the law seeks to protect,” she said.

AutumnJones Wants You To MEET: Joe Stu

Hello and how are you feeling today?
I’m great and it’s good to be alive!!!

Explain to people who may not know who Joe Stu is, Who You are?
Joe Stu is a blue-collar artist. I represent the working class nine to fivers who are striving for something better.

You’re originally from New York, You moved down to Atlanta, GA to attend college. Was music also in the plans then?
In a sense. It wasn’t the typical rapper going down to Atlanta to blow up. I really went to get an education. I didn’t get truly serious until I was already in school. I started to meet other people who were like minded, from all over the country, I also started seeing cats who were really doing it up and making moves in the industry, that’s when it clicked that I could make it happen. Before then as Biggie stated “It was all a dream!”

How long have you been rapping and how did you come up with the name Joe Stu?
I’ve been writing since I was around 12. Joe Stu is just my government name shortened. Joseph Stewart. I used to have all these colorful names in the beginning, but you always run the risk of someone else having the same name so I just stuck with the one I was given. Plus it’s a dedication of sorts to my parents who are no longer here.
What inspires you musically?
There are a whole host of things that inspire me. Hearing good music is always inspirational, or sometimes it can be a good film. More than likely life and the situations that come along with it push me to write. I’ve made a TON of mistakes in life, so I figure I can make good use of them by making songs about them.

My favorite songs that I’ve heard are "Addiction" & "Natural Mystic"? What are your favorites and Why?
I got a few favorites on this new mix tape. “Addiction” is one of them because it’s a true struggle. Plus it came to me pretty easy, there was nothing forced about that song. Hopefully by the time this interview is out I’ll have that under controlJ. Another favorite was “Crack”. I approached that song like it was a report. I put a lot of facts and research into that one.

As an up and coming rapper, how do you look at the music industry right now seeing and hearing a lot of things that's taking place?
I love the fact that music is so readily available. It’s better for the fans, and even though there’s a lot of music out there it’s pressure on the artist to stand out that much more. If you’re an independent artist, the lane is wide open you just have to grind hard as hell to make your mark. I’m all for that grind especially since the benefits you reap are good. With a major label route, there’s so much at stake that you have to have a formula that equals large sales. The label has to make sure that there’s a hit. As far as the quality, that’s always questionable. It seems like the masses want dumbed down music, but I whole-heartedly believe that there’s an audience for progressive mature hip-hop.
I know you released a mix tape with DJ Ill Will, But when will the album be released?
I have a plan that I’m executing with my team. The focus of that plan is to build enough buzz so that people actually want the album. So many times artist drop an album and no one either knows or cared about it. On the other hand I don’t want to wait too long. It’s all about when the timing is right.
Listening to your music lyrically I can hear that you’re a New Yorker because you guys are know for lyrics. But what are some things that were added to you music being in Atlanta "Have fun type scene in music”?
Being in Atlanta taught me to be a songwriter. There’s always a part of me that wants to go for 1000 bars, but I had to admit to myself that your not reaching people as much through that. There’s an art to songwriting that I had to submit to, and I still am. There’s more to a song than just the verse. Now a days being from NY is more of a disadvantage. There’s the automatic assumption that your arrogant, or you talk a certain way, etc. I believe we kind of brought that on ourselves by being real exclusive and ignoring other scenes. Don’t get me wrong I love my city. A lot of times I get “you don’t seem like you’re from NY”, but I take that as “oh your not real arrogant.”

Your also a tattoo artist, How do you tie that into your music?
Right now it’s how I pay for studio time. Though being a visual artist in general has helped me be more vivid with my words. My description of stuff becomes more visual. Plus you can check out my work on the cover art for the mix tape.

What can fans old and new expect to see from Joe Stu in this coming year?
More product!! I’m aiming to be one of the most consistent artist to come around. So look for more mix tapes, songs and product from Joe Stu

What is something that you want people to know about you that they may not know?
I’m a human being. A lot of artist these days try to sell a real hyped up image. I’m one of the few whom people can relate to and still give them something to escape to.

Do you have any up coming show, where people can check you out at?
I gotta show with Mojo Swagger April 3rd at the Bench.
Is there anything else you'd like to say?
Shouts out to MoBetta, Najja, Mudnoc, Jay Force, D.R.U.G.S., W.E.T. Productions and everybody that helped put this mix tape together.
