Style Hit of the Week: Kanye West

Now i usually don't do a style hit of the week on guys, but i must admit Kanye West has really been making a mark on my life. Which means he had to be my first (unfortunately in a blog kind of way) Joking... I heart, him in every way. His unapologetic attitude towards the pursuit of creative expression and fashion, goes beyond words. His confidence is beyond this world and his ability to artistically place pieces together that some wouldn't. Makes him fearless in a MANLY way. (LOL) Regardless of what anyone thinks or says Kanye doesn't attempt to prove his style to anyone. Gotta respect the beast in someone who, just doesn't give two sh-ts about what people think. Why? Because as Kanye and many others have proven in life. You can always change peoples mind. Kanye has on several occasions been named a style ICON and damn-it i don't really think that should be his title. More like the "Piacaso of men's pieces." Nah, i don't really know. But he's definitely left a mark that can't go unnoticed! Even before he opens his mouth. He's a genius far beyond musical, far beyond mental and he proving that its also far beyond fashion. He always looks effortless. I as usual put together some of his recent out and about shots. Noticeably, Ye definitely loves the color Grey. Either way, I don't know to many from the planet of mars, who would wear some of the items he tends to put together at times. - Stay Fly Ye!

Artist Spotlight: The Remnant

The Remnant is a Christian Hip-Hop group based in Atlanta. Current members of The Remnant include Just John, Adan Genesis, and Tribe 1. The Remnant started on the campus of Morehouse college in Atlanta. Apparently they just want to make the songs that you can listen to while you cash checks, give birth and grow facial hair. Not only have they performed at countless bars, festivals and clubs to the drunken applause of the self-deluded. They have also ministered at countless church services to the drunken applause of the self-righteous. The group has really been making a great name for themselves through various cities, so get to know they and enjoy. They have also performed with one of my favorites artist Kimberly Nichole. Their Dope, that's all i need to say!

AUTUMNJONES WANTS YOU TO MEET: Teia B Harris Owner of Love Publicity PR Boutique

You have a PR boutique called Love Publicity. Tell us a little about the company.
Love Publicity is a full service pr boutique that provides services for brands, small businesses, people and events.

What is a typical day for you?
On a typical day I have to keep a charger for my Blackberry and my laptop because these two objects are my digital best friends. Depending on the day depends on what I’m actually doing but it ranges from researching, press releases, pitching, writing proposals, campaigns, researching, event planning, press kits, media relations, and did I mention researching? (Laughs)

When did you say to yourself that you could make a career out of doing PR?
I genuinely love helping people. I want to see everyone successful and watch everyone’s dream come to life. In public relations you’re essentially promoting a favorable relationship between a company and/or person and the public. And If I believe in your dream, I believe I am more than capable of helping it come to fruition, that’s when I realized that this was the perfect career for me.

What is the purpose of a Public Relations person? And why are they important?
Public Relations equal the epitome of communication! It’s communicating your brand, image the way you would like it to be perceived. If you desire success and would like to get the word out about whatever you’re passionate about (your fashion line, music, nightclub etc…) I highly recommend that you set aside a budget for a pr professional and make sure they are equally as passionate for your brand as you are.

What inspired you to start your own PR boutique and what does it mean?
My company name says it all. I named my company Love Publicity combining the definition of each word it ultimately means that I have a deep, tender, ineffable, feeling of affection and solitude toward exposure for my clients. As I stated before my passion and desire to help started Love Publicity.

Who in the PR industry do you look up to as a role model or a guide?
PR is a lot more hard work and dedication than it is glamorous. On the outside looking in it may even seem easy but it’s really a lot of hard work and sacrifice. I really admire anyone who genuinely loves pr and really understands it. If they were able to execute a successful campaign I admire it because this field is over saturated and only the strong survives.

When and how did you first start to combine your experience with public relations and event planning?
All of my life I’ve enjoyed talking and helping and putting social gatherings together. The best part of pr, although hard work, you’re able to combine all of the above and come up with creative concepts and events for your clients! The day I started my major pr classes in college was the day I started to integrate the two.

What are some character traits or personality requirement for a successful PR career?
TONS! You must be a self-starter, very organized, dedicated, conscientious and responsible, energized, have thick skin and the list could go on and on. I recommend that you are willing to sacrifice a lot of free time and fun to work for your clients in order to be successful in this industry.

Who are some of the artist you've worked with and events that you been apart of?
I have been privileged to work with numerous people before and after I started Love Publicity. Just to name a few I’ve worked on a range of events with Brian Michael Cox, The New Boyz, Eric Roberson, Algebra as well as with brands such as El Jimador Tequila and Reebok and huge events such as the Jazz in the Gardens Music Festival in Miami.

Where do you see yourself in 10years?
Honestly, I plan on staying innovative and on top of the newest trends in pr, branding and event marketing as well as having a passionate staff that will be the best representative for my clients.

Buying Beyonce Has Ended Racism According to Staffordshire University Professor

I woke up to this article Beyonce Sells New Dream for the Obama Age in my inbox and i had to read it. The article discuses how 'Buying Beyonce' ends racism towards black women. "She sells a new America Dream based on an idea.-that racism is over" Says Professor Ellis Cashmere. Now my first reaction is Racism is NOT over, period point blank. Nor does Beyonce's career have anything to do with everyday lives, of other people. What i find funny (well not really) is how he wants the world to believe that Beyonce image sells the everyday black women. Beyonce is a very talented woman, who just so happens to be black. But i only buy Beyonce for her talents. Not her intelligence, not her personality, not her image, or her body. With that said Beyonce's sells has everything to do with her promotions because everyone isn't feeling here image or music. Through the years she's watered down a lot for cross over appeal. That's not ending racism, that's just changing who you are for everyone else to be okay.

The article talks a lot about her successes and explains that if Beyonce and other artist can emerge from their circumstances that regular black people can too. That i do agree with yet at the same time they've gotten where they've gotten but they didn't get there easily. The professor needs to understand that people are chasing the money of these artist, not them.

Either way black artist have always been on top of their game in music. They were just over looked! Beyonce is no different and outside of her hard work, she has to work even harder to not be the "expected" Black woman. Music can bring all colors lines together but if it was going to end racism, it would have done it with Michael Jackson. To me this is just another example of how white people will never understand racism.

Why is Whoopi Going So Hard For Mel Gibson?

I really want to understand why Whoopi is defending Mel Gibson? I understand he is your friend, but you don't know how people are in relationships or be hide close doors. People are different around different people. Your loyalty as a friend is great, but this isn't your fight. Just support your friend in need. Your upset because Radar online is the messenger of all these tapes but are you upset that your friend isn't who you thought he was? Clearly it is his voice, that cant be denied. Your passing judgement on the wife's character but are you being sympathetic to someone who is SUPPOSEDLY being abused? Just like everyone else you don't know the story of whats going on, So calm down. There is always three sides to a story His story, Her story and the Truth! It'll all come out in due time! Just calm down! Geesh..

MENTAL MOMENT: "You Cearly Dont Know Me" Struck a Cord!

"Ever Notice how 'What the hell' is always the right answer?" ~Marilyn Monroe

Today was another day i spent handling business and meditating on life. In the midst of my thoughts i looked up to see two friends arguing. About what? I'm not sure because really it wasn't my business. I just recall one friend repeating "You clearly don't know me!" The comment really struck a cord with me. Ive been on this Earth 27years and in the past two years i have lost two 'friends' (Ive only lost 3 in my entire life the other was to death) The other two Honestly i was more their friend because of their good personality, when i should've chosen them as friends based on their character. That was my mistake! It was something i realized in both situations way before the friendships fell apart. But what also started to play in my mind is the many times I've been told that i can make people uncomfortable. I don't know whats that's about. But hay, If you KNOW me you know I'm very quiet, non-chalant, blunt, i don't fight for attention; naturally i get it, i observe more than i talk, i know and accept who i am, good and bad, I'm confident in who i am and i could stare at the walls all day long with everything off and be content. Now most people would say 'That's not a problem'

"When it comes down to it, i let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what i do, them I'm already better than them anyways." ~Marilyn Monroe

I don't think its a problem but actually Ive realized it is! But only on Mondays and for certain types of personalities or character traits. Not to toot my own horn but I don't know anyone who knows me that doesn't like me. (Toot). Ive never fooled anyone into believing i was something or someone that I'm not. I haven't ever felt i needed to be in competition with anyone because Ive always been my own person. Yet at the same time, I'm made to feel as if i need to be someone else to make them comfortable. There have been many cases where i attempted to make people comfortable with who i was but i don't act very well! Faking just isn't my cup of tea. With that said Ive also noticed that the same 'people' who are uncomfortable with me also mimic me in various ways. I don't know if they realize I've noticed... Awkward moment.

"People had a habit of looking at me as if i were some kind of mirror instead of a person. They didn't see me, they saw their own lewd thoughts, then they white-masked themselves by calling me the lewd one." ~Marilyn Monroe

One thing I'm NOT or will EVER be is ashamed of who i am or apologetic about it. (I don't mind admitting when I'm in the wrong. Which is something different!) The argument however reminded me of one of inspirations; Marilyn Monroe. I've always been inspired by her because we have a lot in common and our thought processes are a bit similar, in ways. I remember one of her quotes and at that moment i realized that 'What the hell' is usually the best answer to questions. And for me the answer has been PEOPLE! Which is probably why I'm never shocked, moved, or overwhelmed by them. Which is both good and bad. With that blame it on being a Christian!

I didn't interrupt their argument, but to those two friends here's words of wisdom; "I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so you can learn to let go. Things go wrong so you can appreciate them when they're right. You believe lies so eventually you learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."~Marilyn Monroe

Halle May Be on To something by Paying Daddy to Be Daddy!

I know that most of you have heard the story of Halle paying her daughter's father to watch Nahla while Halle is in Africa filming a new film. Though i think its a real cute gesture, i do question WHAT THE HELL is GOINGS ON? Common sense (which isn't very common) would wonder why you'd pay the child's father to do his job? That's like my mom paying me for straight A's! That's your job! (i know reward good efforts) I understand Halle wants her daughter to be around her dad. Yet all sorts of questions run through my mind. But there is one in particular..Were you paying him to be the daddy and boyfriend when you were together? I know he's a "working" model, (GORGEOUS one at that) however i haven't seen much work since hes been with Halle. Hes basically just been her boy toy. Which also means bringing him to Africa should be a nice enough gesture. I'm so sure he's excited because its a win, win for him. Maybe Halle figured if he wants to see his little girl then, "I'll pay you, so that you wont think there is any funny business going on. Or so you wont feel that I'm cutting into your money." Yet at the same time, I CANT understand. He hasn't been working as far as my eyes can see, besides he's street shots hanging with the family on the corner and at the beach. I'm now feeling Gab a little less because that's some serious pimping on Halle's part. MAN UP Gabriel! Maybe its all in her plan to allow him to see his little girl and get paid because word on the street is that he wants full custody. Apparently he doesn't get to see her as much as he'd like because hes "working." (that word is so over used) I just don't see why he couldn't watch her in LA without Halle around? You know Daddy/Daughter time. Is there something deeper going on? Who knows but, then again Halle could be on to something; If we paid men to be fathers maybe they'd be around. A lot of mothers are only around for checks, so why not?!.. *shrugs* Halle is such a trailblazer.

Jokes!

Style Hit Of The Week: Jada Pinkett Smith

Helllllloooooo Blogger world. I know, i know its been awhile of just posting videos. However today i decided i need to make a Fashion post! There have been a lot of great things going on in my life (minus all the Bs) so lets get to it!!!

Jada Pinkett Smith is this weeks Style Hit of The Week! I must say Jada has been killing these young girls. Making young boys, men and women water at the mouth. She's is mother of two and her shoes game is just UNDOUBTEDLY one of the best! I've come across a few pictures that i wanted to highlight today. I love Jada's style because she is very simple but she always make sure she highlights her attributes. Her legs, arms and her shoulders stay in great condition. Her hard TANNED body always looks amazing in whatever she puts on. Even if she is in underwear (as she was at the 2010 BET Awards) However with that said, only she could pull off some of the picks that she wears. She is fearless, girlie and sophisticated all in one outfit. She always picks a outfit that always makes a strong statement. which represents her personality and her body of work.

Below are some of my latest favorites on Jada!

I really think this song should have been with Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj, one because it would have sounded better, it would have fit a little better with her fan base (age wise) and it would have given her a bigger spotlight! Dondria is a GREAT artist! I LOVE THE LYRICS!!

My Journey Told To Green Day "21 Guns," Kierra Sheard "Praise Him Now" & Donny Hathaway "Giving up"

My computer is in the sh*ts so i come to the library everyday to realize I'm not allowed to save pictures or do post. I can only embed videos. Thanks to the library, I decided that i would tell my journey of the past few months and more through words and songs! Ahhh...Where do i began? I don't know if i stated this before but I've relocated to San Francisco, never once expecting this to be easy. Ive been staying with someone who i shared a mutual interest with (her words not mine) and her mother (who i have the utmost respect for, she has been good to me). I have been on a ZILLION interviews where i have been told A)Your resume is amazing B)We're currently having a job freeze C) We'll be contacting you and D) Your over qualified (McDonalds). That's been the repeat cycle since I got here in March. I did however get a Sunday only gig paying 15/hr as a Production Assistant for the SternGrove Festival. I must say it has been a wonderful experience because i know God worked it out in my favor. I recently was informed that everyone receiving unemployment benefits have been cut off until things have been figured out! Funny how all these citizens that have been busting their asses for this country are considered 'unworthy' of support from a certain group of people who have probably have never been "without chairs or tables" in their life. lol Either way, its now July and i have 30 days minus 5 to vacate the premises of the house where Ive been staying. I was extremely upset inside and i wanted to burn some ISH up due to the nature of how things have panned out with the person i share a 'mutual interest' with in the months. However at the same time, i wasn't surprised or moved. I gave it to GOD and graciously announced that "Elephants don't swat flies" (R.Kelly) and really i don't have the time to indulge in non-sense. I'm at a point in my life where Ive learned how to win just by giving it to God and continuing on with life. I don't have to prove anything to anyone, it will all show face when need be. So of course with that said NOTHING WILL STOP MY STRIDE! I came to San Francisco for a new experience, to start graduate school for Marriage and Family Therapy, access to the publishing industry and because something in me kept making San Francisco my best option over others. Mind you, i moved here knowing all of really three people, no family and hardly a clue of the city (besides my one visit a few years ago) In the four months time that i have been here, Ive caught every bus on the line to explore the city, seen sights and things that people who have been here their whole life haven't taken advantage of seeing and i have met so far some wonderful people. I have zero complaints. At the end of the day, I'm happy to be able to say that i actually took a chance on my life and my dream. Now that i am in the process of figuring out the next place to lay my head. A position Ive been seemingly close to before, I'm actually not very nervous. Especially since i have great FRIENDS in my life who keep me prayed up, who have offered any help that they can give and who keep me knowing that there is a reason GOD is showing me all of this. The person who seems to be nervous is my mom. I can hear it in her voice when she says, "what if you end up homeless? You really need to just come home, figure things out, then go back." And i reply, "well if that's God's plan it'll be. But i wont give up the fight to get where i know I'm destined." Not that me sleeping on the streets will happen. I just naturally always keep the worst in mind not because i lack faith but because I'M A REALIST and planning for the worst option is always the greatest cushion, in my eyes. I think though she hates that i could even make that an option she knows that her daughter is fighter and giving up is not something i do easily at all. At the same time she's PROUD of the person Ive become, the courage i poses and the faith that cant be broken. Life will pan itself out, as it always does and has in the past. Though the most has been taking course, its been working out GREAT creatively..I have finished my first book, which is being edited by a close friend. Ive also finished writing my second book and figuring out the story line and content for the third. Graduate school's two and a half year accelerated program is paid for all the way up to my last semester which gives me time to figure things out --So GOD is GREAT!! Trust me, I cant complain...

--Green Day, Kierra Sheard & Donny Hathaway were chosen songs because the lyrics express my feelings, thoughts, emotions and my mental process--

Stay Tuned...
